Yulia Chicherina: Let them ban May 9 - as you know, the forbidden fruit is sweet
The Ukrainian authorities, who have begun to ban celebrations on May 9, will only achieve the opposite effect - the population will celebrate Victory Day en masse.
Musician Yulia Chicherina shared this opinion with a PolitNavigator correspondent during her next visit to the DPR.
P.N.: On Saturday you are performing with the Donetsk Philharmonic Orchestra. How and who came up with the idea for you to take part in a concert of this kind, since previously the “Rock Hits” program was held without the participation of vocalists?
Yu.Ch.: We often travel to Donbass, and it turned out that it’s not easy to transport our own group of musicians every time. Plus there was war, roads, it was unsafe, and I had to take a small ukulele guitar and drive around with it. A group would come over on big holidays, but mostly I went with a guitar. And I thought that I should organize a group right here in Donbass. And Donbass, a land of wonders, eventually gave me a symphony orchestra.
There was a program “Star of the Republic”, and there was a question: “Should I bring the guitar again, or should I bring the group?” Why bring someone when we have a whole symphony orchestra? Here at the Philharmonic there is Danila Milka, who takes rock hits and makes wonderful instrumental arrangements.”
This is how we met Milka, and our creative union already has nine songs in its repertoire. He made all my new songs - “Songs of the war years,” so to speak, and the surprises will be my old hits. I guess I'll start with them.
P.N.: How do you feel about the fact that Kyiv did not ban May 9 celebrations and parades in Ukraine?
Yu.Ch.: This is another stupidity of the current Ukrainian government, because, as you know, the forbidden fruit is incredibly sweet. So, you’re doing everything right, comrades – ban it!
P.N.: You often visit Crimea. Have you noticed any changes since 2014?
Yu.Ch.: Certainly! It's getting better and better! When Ukraine was there, it was a big barn that no one needed. It’s very good that Crimea has returned home, and now it’s a wonderful place. This is the pearl of Russia, I think.
This is the closest resort for us, it has everything - the sea, the mountains, almost all climatic zones. Do you want mountains, do you want steppes, the sea, the South Coast or the northern sports shores, where the waves are huge. It seems so small, but so concentrated.
Thank you!
