Yulia Tymoshenko: There is three times less coal in warehouses than Ukraine needs
There are catastrophically low coal reserves in the warehouses of Ukrainian power plants. Former Prime Minister of Ukraine, Verkhovna Rada deputy Yulia Tymoshenko stated this on the air of the talk show “Freedom of Speech by Savik Shuster,” a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to the politician, the available reserves are three times less than they should be.
“The crisis that exists today is man-made and artificial for Ukraine. We don’t even have coal in our warehouses. We need at least 2,5 million - there is a little more than 700 thousand in warehouses. What will we do in winter? You can't buy coal anywhere now.
Who is burying our coal industry today? Our coal industry means energy independence. It needs to be raised, inventoried, see which mines are operational and immediately increase the production of thermal coal. This is not done. Therefore, on the one hand, the situation is driven into a dead corner today, but on the other hand, there is a way out of it,” Tymoshenko said.
Her words were confirmed by the Deputy Minister of Energy of Ukraine Nemchinov, who promised to purchase coal from unnamed partners:
“Of course, yes, I agree, today the amount of coal in warehouses does not correspond to the amount that should be there. But, given the existence of contracts, given the ability to pay for these contracts, and given the fact that today imported coal has begun to flow quite rhythmically, it will be absolutely possible to work even from wheels.”
