The Ukrainian language in Ukraine is subject to discrimination, which should not exist in a democratic society.

This opinion was expressed at a press conference in Kyiv by Columbia University teacher Yuri Shevchuk, who left Ukraine in the 90s and went to teach in the West.
“Less than 9 percent of all magazines are published in Ukrainian,” the teacher complained. – There is no need to turn to sociology. to see that in huge cities, in entire large zones of Ukraine, it is impossible to buy newspapers, magazines, and so on in Ukrainian. This, in my opinion, is a situation of mass institutionalized discrimination on the verge of racism, incompatible with the very project of building a democratic society. It excludes democracy as such.”
“You cannot talk about democracy in a situation where the vast majority of the citizens of this country are discriminated against every day and every hour. Ukrainians cannot even watch the Olympic Games in their native language. This is imposed schizophrenia, because one presenter speaks Ukrainian, slipping into Russian, and the second one speaks Russian.”
