The lawyer stunned Kyiv journalists: Stop saying that “Crimea is ours”!
It’s time for the Kyiv media to stop repeating the mantra that “Crimea is Ukraine” a long time ago, since after the events of Euromaidan, the overwhelming majority of residents of the peninsula chose reunification with Russia.
This was stated by Vitaly Serdyuk, Viktor Yanukovych’s lawyer, after a court hearing in the case of treason against the ex-president, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The lawyer, who was surrounded by reporters, explained to journalists that they should not ask the question “whose Crimea is,” but to hold accountable those through whose fault Ukraine lost the peninsula.
After this, one of the Ukrainian journalists still asked the lawyer: “So whose is Crimea?”
“Go to Crimea, see whose flags they have. There is Ukrainian legislation according to which Crimea belongs to Ukraine. But let’s face it: what kind of ours is it, when a large number of Crimeans, including interrogated witnesses, said that they do not want to be in this country,” answered Vitaly Serdyuk.
“What is “Crimea ours” when we can’t go there and the flags of another country hang there? Crimea is, first of all, people. How is he “ours” when people were pushed out of this country and humiliated? People received no protection, there was no investigation. Imagine yourself in the shoes of these people.
Ask yourself a question: would you like to stay in a country where you are bullied for your views, killed, turned into disabled people, and this country not only does not protect you, but also wants to continue to talk only by force! Would you want to stay in this country when it is physically dangerous?
Would you want to stay in this country where the president you voted for and elected was replaced illegally? It was these actions that led to this situation,” the lawyer said.
Thank you!
