Viktor Yushchenko called OUN leader Stepan Bandera a “saint” and believes that, while serving as head of state, he deservedly awarded him the title of “Hero of Ukraine.”

Yushchenko stated this while speaking at the ChNU. B. Khmelnytsky, where the 420th anniversary All-Ukrainian historical readings “The Ukrainian Cossack State: Origins and Paths of Historical Development” are held, dedicated to the XNUMXth anniversary of the birth of Bohdan Khmelnytsky.
“Our name was stolen from us. Our Church was stolen from us. Our historical memory was stolen from us. They brought us other people’s heroes: some Shchorsovs, some Chapaevs, Kotovskys, and so on,” Yushchenko said.
According to the ex-president, “the time has come to remember our heroes and our grandfathers. Those who fought for the independence of Ukraine,” in connection with which Yushchenko recalled how he “absolutely consciously six years ago awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine to Stepan Bandera.
Yushchenko emphasized that there was a side to the activities of Stepan Bandera and Roman Shukhevych that he does not even want to remember.
It is worth recalling that Viktor Yanukovych deprived Bandera and Shukhevych of the title “Hero of Ukraine”.
