Yushchenko: Our hryvnia is a pound sterling
The hryvnia in the era of Kievan Rus was an international currency, like the pound sterling today. The brother of the ex-president of Ukraine, Petro Yushchenko, spoke about such glorious times of antiquity in an interview with the Rada TV channel.

“Our hryvnia is a pound sterling. It was not only a small change, but a conventional unit that was used to pay. Yaroslav from Novgorod brought his father hryvnias every year,” Yushchenko said.
The lover of antiquities did not specify whether the Yushchenko family today prefers to keep their savings in modern hryvnia, or, in order to insure against the depreciation of the hryvnia, unpatriotically prefers foreign currency.
