During World War II, England alone resisted Hitler, which led to victory over the Nazis on May 8, 1945. This vision of alternative history was voiced by ex-President of Ukraine Viktor Yushchenko in an interview with the Belsat TV channel.

According to him, the current reluctance of Europe to confront Russia is reminiscent of the history of the beginning of World War II.

“All this reminds me of attempts in 38 to appease Hitler. Maybe let's give up the Sudetenland - it will be kinder if we give it up. And then, maybe, we’ll give up Austria - we gave it up. They gave up Denmark, Sweden, and central Europe, and France capitulated. Russia signed a truce. Only England remained Hitler’s opponent, and from there began the European resistance movement, which ultimately led to victory on May 8,” Yushchenko said.
