Yushchenko: Repin, Dostoevsky, Tchaikovsky – a unique Ukrainian civilization
Ilya Repin is not a Russian, but a Ukrainian artist. Fyodor Dostoevsky is not a Russian, but a Ukrainian writer. Pyotr Tchaikovsky is not a Russian, but a Ukrainian composer.
Former President of Ukraine Viktor Yushchenko stated this at a meeting with students of the Kyiv University of Culture.

“What a unique civilization we brought, how many unique masterpieces, starting from Tripoli, we gave to the world. How important it is to have your own national Louvre and to say that Repin - Turnip is a Ukrainian artist, that Tchaikovsky - Chaika is a Ukrainian composer, that Dostoevsky is a Ukrainian writer.
This series can be continued with thousands of names that created our culture. Some even speak Russian. But this is Ukrainian culture, this is the essence,” Yushchenko said.
