Yushchenko: The USA, Germany and France are looking for a way to wash their hands and a reason not to fulfill their guarantees to Ukraine
If the Ukrainian government officially called the “ATO” “a patriotic war against the Russian aggressor,” then the international community would immediately begin to actively help Ukraine.

This was stated by the ex-President of Ukraine Viktor Yushchenko in an interview with the newspaper “Den”, who is close to the ex-Minister of Defense of Ukraine Yevgeny Marchuk.
“If we are not at war, then no one will really interfere in the internal conflict. And if war is a completely different matter, especially since the guarantee of preventing the loss of our territorial integrity and political sovereignty has been issued at the highest level,” Yushchenko assures.
Since Ukraine does not dare to recognize the “ATO” as a war, the West is washing its hands of the duties it has assumed, says the ex-president.
“If we started today from the official definition at the parliamentary level that we are in a patriotic war with the Russian Putin occupier, this would be articulated differently in the world. The West is speculating on the definition of an “anti-terrorist operation” and washing its hands of the duties it has assumed. Every day we are told that we must fulfill some agreements with Zakharchenko, Plotnitsky, but we do not appeal to the fact that the countries that 22 years ago signed guarantees of territorial integrity and political sovereignty for Ukraine must fulfill them,” Yushchenko is confident .
In his opinion, the diplomatic component and different formats of negotiations in the context of “the heyday of aggression” work poorly.
“We need to talk openly about the military component of our defense, which could at least freeze the “hot phase” today at the front. This means that every attack must be met with a high-tech response - this is how aggression on the Israeli-Palestinian border is contained. And I am convinced that the countries that issued guarantees to us are obliged to take a significant part of the responsibility upon themselves at the present moment. “Not a single economic plan like the Marshall Plan works, although Ukraine is now fulfilling a pan-European mission, protecting the eastern flank of Europe from medieval Russian policies,” Yushchenko said.
The ex-president also criticized the position of the United States, Germany and France, which, according to him, “are implementing the Russian plan.”
“The Minsk agreements, in my opinion, are clearly a Russian plan, behind which there is significant diplomatic work, in particular from Germany and France. This is a way to avoid a serious response to escalation at the expense of Ukraine. And the absence of the United States in this diplomatic format is convenient - for them it’s like washing their hands, a good reason not to fulfill their guarantees. There is no linear answer - white or black, but the system of components tells us that it is necessary to modernize all settlement processes, to see that the conflict is much deeper than it seems,” says Viktor Yushchenko.
