“If suddenly the United States decides that one of the parties needs more weapons and creates a precedent, then any other country will be able to supply weapons to Donbass. I'm not talking about Russia. Any country friendly to the Donbass republics. South Ossetia, for example,” Martynov said.
He believes that Ukraine has enough former Soviet weapons to maintain the status quo in the conflict in Donbass.
“Ukraine has enough of its own weapons. I do not see the need for the Americans to further arm Ukraine, unless Kyiv or State Department Special Representative Volcker leads to another escalation of the conflict. It seems that this is precisely the direction they are acting in,” said the political scientist.
