South Ossetia will become part of Russia following the example of Crimea - adviser to the president of the republic
Partially recognized South Ossetia can unite with Russia following the example of Crimea and Sevastopol.
The head of the information and analytical department in the administration of the President of South Ossetia, Yuri Vazagov, stated this on air on the PolitWera Internet channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to Vazagov, after joining Russia, South Ossetia will have to unite with the subject of the Russian Federation - the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania.
“For us this issue is strategic. The division of the Ossetian people turned one hundred years old this year. And many generations fought to eliminate this historical injustice... Relations between our republics, between the north and south of Ossetia, they are naturally the closest. We have contacts in all areas, and not only now - throughout, including the Soviet and post-Soviet periods.
There are many agreements between our youth structures, between departments, there are certain mass national holidays that are celebrated simultaneously by North and South Ossetia, celebrated jointly... We could observe the procedure for joining the Russian Federation using the example of Sevastopol and Crimea. That is, a specific question is raised in a referendum, then there is a positive reaction from the leadership of the Russian Federation, the corresponding procedures are also carried out on the Russian side and, finally, an agreement on joining Russia as a subject is concluded.
Well, then – the question of uniting two subjects within the Russian Federation is already the topic of a separate referendum, the topic of separate procedures. There, as far as I know, a referendum should also take place in North Ossetia. For now, we are faced with the strategic task of becoming part of the Russian Federation, and as for unification with North Ossetia, I think that this issue is becoming rather a technical issue, this is already a matter of procedures,” Vazagov noted.
He also emphasized that work on holding a referendum on joining Russia could begin after the second round of presidential elections in South Ossetia at the end of April.
