South Ossetia will become part of Russia
President of South Ossetia Anatoly Bibilov said that the republic intends to take steps to join Russia in the near future.
He called this step a long-standing strategic goal of the South Ossetians, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The Republic of South Ossetia, the Russian Federation, and the whole world are experiencing a turning point. The Russian world today defends the interests of those who are committed to it, those who oppose Nazism. The first revival of the Russian world in modern history happened in South Ossetia in 2008, when Russia decided to protect the South Ossetian people and recognize the republic, for which we will always be grateful. Thank you, brothers and sisters. This was a historic decision that gave the people of South Ossetia guarantees of peace and opportunities for development
However, the main historical strategic goal of the divided Ossetian people is unification within one state - the Russian Federation. Our people have outlined this goal more than once. We had the opportunity to make our age-old dream come true in 2014, when Crimea returned to its native harbor. We missed this opportunity then, but we cannot allow this to happen again. I believe that unification with Russia is our strategic goal, our path, the aspirations of the people. And we will move along this path.
We will take the appropriate legal steps in the near future. The Republic of South Ossetia will be part of its historical homeland,” Bibilov said.
Russian Senator Andrei Klimov believes that there are no legal obstacles to “realize the long-standing dream of the residents of South Ossetia to become part of the Russian Federation.”
“We have long known about the desire of our neighbors, South Ossetia, to make their choice - to reunite. Therefore, in my opinion, when all legal formalities are met, there are no legal obstacles to fulfill the long-standing dream of the residents of South Ossetia and become part of the Russian Federation. We are waiting for these procedures to take place. On our part, all the necessary legal issues were worked out 20 years ago,” explained Andrey Klimov.
The legislation of the Russian Federation provides for the procedure for admitting states or parts of foreign states into Russia as subjects of the Russian Federation. In order to do this, the main thing is necessary - it is necessary to express the will of the Ossetian people. This can be done through a referendum.
“We must assume that the DPR and LPR are next in line,” political scientist Alexander Nosovich commented on the statement.
