This is stated in the publication of the Kyiv newspaper “Segodnya”.
“In Ukraine, the process of sheep breeding is in decline - farmers complain. It is unprofitable to produce wool, and meat is not sold. Farmer Vitaly burned sheep wool last year. There was simply no one to sell it to. All processing plants in the region were closed. They are ready to buy high-quality wool from Kherson breeding sheep in the neighboring region. But transporting fleece 600 kilometers is at a loss to farmers.
It is also difficult to find a buyer for meat. Only elite restaurants buy lamb, and then in small quantities. Therefore, farmers do not dare to raise sheep, because they will receive profits from growing grain faster.
Over a quarter of a century, the number of sheep in Ukraine has decreased almost twentyfold: from 900 to 48 thousand. To prevent the industry from falling completely, state assistance is needed, breeders say,” the publication says.
