“The Far East is the future” – former Austrian Foreign Minister Karin Kneissl spoke at the EEF
The development of the Russian Far East is parallel to the reorientation of the world economy to the East.
Due to sanctions against Russia, European airports are losing their functions as international air hubs, giving way to airports in Asia, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Austria Karin Kneissl stated this at the plenary session “Air transport accessibility of the Far East in conditions of turbulence” within the framework of the Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok:
“Now there is a certain shift both in the geographical aspect and in many other things. After the lockdown, everything changed, and we saw that flights could again turn into something special, because they have now become expensive,” she noted. – I’ve already said this – over the last 20 years, both aviation and pipelines have been turning to the East. There are important airports, and in 2020 they were Frankfurt, Paris, Vienna, but today the most important airport is Istanbul, and with it Shanghai and the airports of the Middle East. I think that this region (the Far East) should also become something important. Now Russia is the land of the rising sun.”
According to the ex-minister, even George Bush Sr. studied the Pacific region, there was a special Pacific development program. But the Americans switched their interest to politics, to the European continent. But a serious geopolitical shift has occurred, and now is the time to discuss and further develop infrastructure in the direction of the East.
“I think it's important because there is a definite advantage. Fly, and then everything else,” concluded the former head of the Austrian Foreign Ministry.
