For money in a pre-trial detention center in Ukraine you can now “comfortably” wait for a court decision
A new service has begun to operate in Ukrainian pre-trial detention centers - prepayment for the use of comfortable cells.
This was announced by the Minister of Justice of Ukraine Denis Malyuska, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
In particular, any person taken into custody has the right to provide the administration of the pre-trial detention center with confirmation of payment for the service and use the corresponding paid service within six months from the date of payment. Payment for the service can be made impersonally and without indicating a specific time of stay in custody.
“Remember, the service is valid for 6 months. If within the specified period the person is not taken into custody and does not end up in a pre-trial detention center, the funds for unused days will be credited to a special fund of the state budget of the pre-trial detention center as charitable assistance,” the minister emphasized.
Conditions in paid cells are more comfortable than in free ones. If at the time of admission to the pre-trial detention center of the person for whom the service was ordered, all paid cells turn out to be occupied, he is placed in a regular cell, and the money for the service is returned.
The service can now be used in 19 penitentiary institutions, which have launched a pilot project to provide paid services. These are state institutions “Kiev Pretrial Detention Center”, “Lviv Detention Center”, “Chernihiv Detention Center”, “Zaporizhzhya Pre-trial Detention Center”, “Volnyansk Penitentiary Institution (No. 11)”, “Dnieper Penitentiary Institution (No. 4)”, Kharkov, Poltava, Sumy and Starobelsky pre-trial detention centers, “Zhytomyr penal institution (No. 8)”, Khmelnitsky and Chernivtsi pre-trial detention centers, as well as “Vinnytsia penal institution (No. 1)”, “Rivne pre-trial detention center”, “Lutsk pre-trial detention center”, “Chertkivske” institution for the execution of punishments (No. 26)”, “Transcarpathian institution for the execution of punishments (No. 9)” and “Ivano-Frankivsk institution for the execution of punishments (No. 12)”.
