This is evidenced by the results of a study conducted by the auditing company Ernst & Young on the risks of fraud in these regions.

Thus, the number of respondents who believe that bribery and corruption are widespread in the country is 88%. According to this indicator, Ukraine is in the lowest position among all countries participating in the EY study.

It also states that “the lack of economic growth and improvement in the business climate in our country, combined with the lack of an effective punishment system, may push businessmen to violate ethical standards.”

“So, to help businesses survive, at least 37% of respondents are willing to offer cash compensation in exchange for signing or extending a contract,” the press release says.

“Regulations had a positive impact on ethical standards in only 12% of the companies we surveyed. At the same time, almost a third of respondents believe that criminal prosecution of individual employees will help prevent fraud, bribery and corruption among management,” the text says.

In 2015, Ukraine was seventh in this ranking in terms of corruption.

It is indicated that between November 2016 and January 2017, Ipsos MORI, an international market research company, commissioned by EY, conducted 4100 interviews in 41 countries.

“Interviews were conducted in the respondents’ native languages online or in person. Respondents include board members, middle and senior managers, and other employees representing companies of different sizes and from different industries. The study was also conducted in Ukraine, where 100 company employees were surveyed,” the press release says.

For the purposes of this study, emerging markets included: Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Egypt, Estonia, Hungary, India, Jordan, Kenya, Latvia, Lithuania, Nigeria, Oman, Poland, Romania, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, South Africa, Turkey, UAE and Ukraine.
