Over the year, Ukrainian coal reserves have decreased by 6 times: The situation is threatening
Coal reserves at Ukrainian thermal power plants are falling, and the government is not doing anything to prepare for next winter, which needs to be done now. The head of the Confederation of Free Trade Unions, Mikhail Volynets, stated this at the III Congress of Miners of Ukraine.

“A year ago, there were 4 million tons of coal in the warehouses of thermal power plants. Now – less than 700 thousand. A drop of almost 6 times. A year ago, coal was mined in Ukraine at 135 mines. It was in surplus at that time, and still remained in the warehouses of mines and factories. Plus coal from digs. Illegal mining, but this coal was on the coal market. Every year it was received from 7 million tons or more.
Currently, in the territory under government control, there are 32 mines controlled by the government, and another 12 mines in private ownership. Thus, we have 44 mines. Anthracite coals remained in the occupied territory. Many integration ties have been destroyed. And we don't know what the next winter will be like.
We must think about how we will go through it. I have a question: why has the minister not yet issued an order on preparations for the autumn-winter period of 2015-2016? And won’t it turn out that in winter we will be in apartments and houses where the walls will be covered with frost? Our entire economy will stop,” says Volynets.
