The loud announcement of anti-Russian sanctions in the EU will be followed by their quiet and quick lifting
The European Union has not found a way to replace 50 million tons of Russian coal (plus coal to replace gas) and is looking for ways to circumvent anti-Russian actions.
Energy expert Igor Alabuzhin stated this in an interview with the PolitVera YouTube channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“It was loudly announced that from August 1, the import of Russian coal into the EU was prohibited. It was a total ban. And already in September the ban on European ships entering Russian ports for coal and on insuring these voyages was lifted. Now a European ship can call at a Russian port, insure this cargo and go somewhere. There is information that they go somewhere, and then from this port they transport Russian coal back to Europe, because it is not easy to replace such an amount of coal,” Alabuzhin said.
He predicts that a similar situation will happen with Russian oil, the price ceiling for which is threatened to be set by the European Union.
“There is a PR component. It is very important for them, since one of the main instruments of EU policy is bluff, pressure. To take it forcefully through a propaganda campaign in the media is very important for them. Then they will lift restrictions in a targeted manner, so that God forbid they have a shortage of coal and gas, which will lead to completely bad things happening to the economy. And even more so - oil, which is the lifeblood of the economy. They will never allow their economy to have a shortage of oil and petroleum products. So they can declare whatever they want. Then their targeted work will begin so that they don’t end up with less oil,” Alabuzhin concluded.
