“Recently, Russian propaganda has intensified, which works on the fact that behind every quilted jacket there is Chekhov, Dostoevsky, Tolstoy. And this seems to be the argument that they have now begun to use.
For example, they bring the symphony orchestra of the Bolshoi Opera House to New York, there is a performance, people buy tickets and, of course, a certain number of our diaspora representatives appear who protest against certain characters who at one time signed a letter for the annexation of Crimea.
And this is played out in a great way - “Look, we brought art, culture, you paid 100 dollars for tickets to come see the concert, and these hooligans are bothering you. It’s the same in the east of Ukraine - we want everyone to feel good there, to have culture, peace, but these Ukrainian hooligans are disturbing us.” And this argument works very well. And we have to do something about it,” says the Ukrainian director.
