Ukraine will not sue for Crimean gas yet - because Gazprom is cunning
Kyiv, July 05 (Navigator, Vladimir Mikhailov) - Gazprom is not the owner of gas in Crimean gas storage facilities, so it makes sense to win this gas in a general lawsuit for all Crimean assets, Naftogaz believes
Gazprom is not so stupid as to take formal ownership of the gas reserves in the gas storage facilities of Crimea, which would give Naftogaz a reason to sue them. Therefore, Ukraine will sue for Crimean gas in a general lawsuit with other assets. The head of NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine Andrey Kobolev announced this at a press conference in Kyiv.

“The remaining gas in Ukrainian gas storage facilities at the beginning of the events that led to the fact that Crimea is now a temporarily occupied territory amounted to approximately 1.8 billion cubic meters. This gas belongs to NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine. As we see so far, Gazprom has nothing to do with them. If Gazprom had been there, Naftogaz would have filed a lawsuit the very next day. But, believe me, no matter what they are, they are not so stupid as to do this. I don't expect to see Gazprom there. Of course, if this happens, it will be great.
Now these gas storage facilities are controlled by some people who consider themselves the local authorities of Crimea. Sending them some letters is recognizing their legitimacy. There is such a problem. Therefore, we see the only way - a general lawsuit, in which all Crimean assets are combined into one basket and a general lawsuit is filed. To the one whom the Ministry of Justice, first of all, together with a group of people who are working on this issue, determines as the defendant, to the court that will be determined as the optimal court for this claim. Moreover, the most expensive asset is actually the shelf, and not the remaining gas.
I’ll say right away that even the valuation of these assets is a task that we are only now completing, because there are many of them. You cannot file a claim without an assessment - this is incorrect. Because then this claim will be easy to reject. Therefore, we need to carry out all the procedures, evaluate them, and cover this issue with one lawsuit,” said Andrei Kobolev.
