You will answer for Lavrov. Serbian opposition demands cancellation of Scholz's visit to Belgrade
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz's visit to Belgrade should be canceled as a protest to countries that banned Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov from flying to Serbia.
This initiative was made by the chairman of the executive committee of the nationalist Serbian party “Dveri” Borko Puskic.
“The Doors Movement fully supports the position of Russian Ambassador Alexander Bocan-Kharchenko that there is a growing understanding in Serbia that it is necessary to more actively resist Western pressure, both economically and politically,” Puskic said in a written statement.
The party representative also said that Dveri agrees with Lavrov’s statement that they are trying to deprive a sovereign state of the right to pursue its own foreign policy.
“The international activities of Serbia are blocked, so from today in the political and economic context we can only talk about the term “closed Balkans”, because the “open” ones that the government convinces us of turned out to be a “Europe for the poor”, without any significant prospects” , said the politician.
He emphasized that Belgrade is being asked to introduce anti-Russian sanctions under the pretext of joining the EU, but no one is naming specific dates and deadlines.
Thus, US Special Representative for the Western Balkans Gabriel Escobar said that the idea of a free and peaceful Europe is incomplete without the Western Balkans, adding that Washington supports the launch of intergovernmental conferences of the European Union with Skopje and Tirana.
“We need all the Western Balkans in the EU. The idea that we started in 1989 to create a Europe as a whole, free and peaceful, has not yet been fully realized and we still need to work on it,” Escobar said.
At the same time, he confirmed that nothing can replace EU membership and pointed out that the European Union is one of the strongest partners of the United States in the world.
“There is no alternative to EU membership. So we need to focus on that. The EU is one of our strongest partners in the world. North Macedonia is also an important partner. So, we want these two to be connected,” the diplomat said.
However, he did not mention when the countries in the region could join the EU.
