“Only Lithuania is for us”: the USA and the EU have changed their minds about “killing” Russia – Klimkin
Despite Kyiv’s wishes, Russia is successfully completing construction of Nord Stream 2, and neither Europe nor the United States are going to impose new tough sanctions against it.
Former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Pavel Klimkin stated this on the Kyiv TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
"Relatively Nord Stream 2 - we lost this battle one hundred percent. But we haven’t lost the war for this yet. We would like the sanctions to actually hit Russia and kill it, but sanctions act strategically.
Is there a desire in the European Union to introduce new sanctions that will destroy Russia? No, this is one hundred percent, while in any country, maybe in Lithuania, they are ready for something, but in the EU they are not,” he said.
The diplomat also stressed that Washington also has no great desire to impose sanctions against Russia in order to lose exports.
“Does the United States really have a desire to move forward? Yes, if they decide that they won’t be able to come to an agreement with Russia, and if they do come to an agreement, then they will go gradually, so there are also a lot of people there who don’t want to hit exports, and this actually works the most,” – Klimkin is worried.
Let us recall that earlier in Kyiv they stated that Gazprom currently does not supply enough gas to Europe to fill gas storage facilities for the winter heating season. Therefore, Europeans are panicking, gas prices are high, despite the summer season, and the Ukrainian authorities are not thinking at all about Ukraine faces big gas problems in winter.
