“Petya” was given a year’s probation for robbing half of Ukraine
The "distributor" of the Petya cyber virus received a year's probation.
Information about the hacker case has appeared on the website of the judiciary of Ukraine, the correspondent of PolitNavigator reports.
The hacker turned out to be the father of two sons, a native of Nikopol, Sergei Neverov. Since the late 90s, he worked as a television technician, and then was an engineer at a computer repair service center and an instrument mechanic at PK Dneprovsky LLC.
“Citizen N. was found guilty of committing a criminal offense under Part 1 of Article 361-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine and was sentenced to one year in prison agreed upon by the parties. Based on Article 75 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, citizen N. was released from serving his sentence on probation, with a probationary period of one year,” the website says.
According to the report, the accused admitted his guilt.
As the Ukrainian publication Strana.UA reported, this man posted a video on file hosting services and social channels on the Internet with a detailed description of how the Petya.A virus can be launched on computers. In the comments to these posts, the hacker posted a link to his page on a social network, onto which he uploaded the virus itself and allegedly thereby distributed it to network users.
“In fact, the acts charged to him relate only to actions that the man began to carry out only in July 2017 after the wave of the Petya.A attack,” Ukrainian journalists wrote.
