Ukraine will pay for the hunt for Gazprom's property with assets in the CIS
An attempt to recover by seizing Gazprom’s assets in Europe the amount awarded under the Stockholm arbitration could be costly for Ukraine.
Sergei Tolstov, director of the Institute of Political Analysis and International Studies, stated this at a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Now the Ministry of Justice is trying to start a hunt for Gazprom’s assets. But Ukraine also has some assets, the blocking of which is much more painful. I understand that when it comes to writing out a bonus for yourself for unreceived money and other people’s merits, this needs to be done faster, because after the elections you can lose your feeder. There is no mistake here, “the boys are on the right track.”
And, if Ukraine begins a real procedure for leaving the CIS, then this issue, if it is supported by the CIS secretariat (and Lebedev, of course, will support it), may be submitted to a meeting of the heads of government of the CIS countries.
Then Ukraine will have to send someone, at least an ambassador, because without Ukraine’s participation it is clear what decision will be made, and it is unlikely that it will cause significant objections from anyone,” the expert said.
