Liberals were punished with rubles for trying to create Maidan in Moscow
For organizing unauthorized protests in Moscow last summer, liberal leaders were fined 2,4 million rubles. This is exactly how much the court assessed the compensation of the National Guard for unscheduled work and fuel expenses on July 27 and August 3, when the opposition held a rally in the capital due to the exclusion of its representatives from participating in the Moscow City Duma elections.
The Cheryomushkinsky District Court satisfied the claims of the Moscow prosecutor's office against Alexei Navalny, Ilya Yashin, Ivan Zhdanov, Lyubov Sobol, Vladimir Milov and other oppositionists, the Kommersant newspaper reports.
A number of observers viewed the summer protests as a rehearsal for opposition speeches with an eye to the State Duma elections and the presidential campaign, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Calls for unsanctioned protests last summer were openly supported by the US Embassy.
