This opinion was expressed today on the Rossiya 1 TV channel by opposition Georgian politician, ex-speaker of the Georgian Parliament Nino Burjanadze.
“He's not really a very courageous person. When he crossed the Ukrainian border, I saw the CIA building behind him. If he had not felt great support, he would not have taken such a step. I am absolutely sure that behind him are very serious forces in the United States, intelligence services, who do not need the situation in Ukraine to be pacified, so that a common language can be found between Ukraine and Russia,” Burjanadze said.
According to her, the West will turn a blind eye to any crimes of Saakashvili because of his anti-Russian position.
“They use it to create a negative icon of Russia. When all human rights were trampled underfoot in Georgia, he was called a beacon of democracy in the West only because he held an anti-Russian flag in his hands and was an opponent of Putin. That's why he got away with everything. Washington does not hope that Saakashvili will become president of Ukraine tomorrow. They are simply using it as part of the program and will continue to do so,” Burjanadze said.
