For selling counterfeit medicines via the Internet in Russia, you will be imprisoned for 8-12 years
The State Duma of the Russian Federation adopted in the first reading today a bill increasing liability for the distribution of counterfeit medicines and dietary supplements on the Internet, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We see that counterfeit medicines are very actively distributed via the Internet. The most important thing is to make this criminal economic activity, aimed against the life and health of citizens, unprofitable,” said the author of the bill, Deputy Speaker Irina Yarovaya.
According to her data, over the past year, 200 batches of counterfeit medicinal substances were seized in Russia, from which more than 61 batch drugs were manufactured.
Selling counterfeits using the media and the Internet, according to the bill, will be punishable by imprisonment from 5 to 8 years with a fine of 1 million to 3 million rubles. If two or more people died as a result of illegal treatment - from 8 to 12 years in prison with a fine of 2 million to 5 million rubles.
In addition, it is proposed to establish fines for citizens of up to 200 thousand rubles, for officials and individual entrepreneurs - up to 800 thousand rubles, for legal entities - up to 5 million rubles. An administrative suspension of activities for up to 90 days is also possible.
