Over seven years, Crimeans have become even more pro-Russian - former Kiev resident
If the same referendum as in 2014 were held in Crimea now, more citizens would vote for joining Russia than seven years ago.
Blogger Maxim Shikhaliev, better known under the pseudonym Tamir Sheikh, said this on air on the KRT TV channel during a teleconference between Donetsk and Kiev, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“I think that the result will be at least the same as in the referendum that took place then. This is on the one hand.
On the other hand, much more of the Crimean Tatar population would now have taken part in this referendum, and the result would have been even more in favor of the choice that was in 2014, based on the events that are taking place in Ukraine.
Because even the last grandmother who sells cheburek on the Crimean market understands that Ukraine is now geopolitically used by major world players in their games. And so far there is no independent policy there,” said Tamir Sheikh.
He emphasized that there was much more legality in Crimea than in Ukraine, and the opinions of citizens began to have weight.
“I had a business in Kyiv, medical branches throughout Ukraine, and a retail network at the Kyiv station. And there were extortions. And if we talk about how things are now in Crimea, then there is more legality here. Even if someone simply wants to build some kind of cottage community, he will encounter a public hearing. And here social activists have a very important role, because they communicate very widely with the population. And, accordingly, not a single project will get through.
We had one of the scandalous projects - they wanted to invest one hundred million dollars in the Baydar Valley, where I live, and build an elite lyceum. But there were disputes about the cottages that the project could change during the construction process. And the public stood up against it, and that was all. That is, money can’t beat it anymore,” the blogger concluded.
