In three months, Ukrainian police seized 950 grenades
During March-May, preventive special police measures continued throughout Ukraine aimed at identifying and seizing weapons, ammunition and explosives from illegal circulation. The main goal of the measures was to establish and suppress channels for the supply of weapons and ammunition from the east of the country to areas where hostilities are not taking place, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine.
“During this time, 2,3 thousand criminal offenses were opened for illegal arms trafficking, 1356 persons have already been informed of suspicion of committing such crimes. Thousands of firearms, 947 grenades, 152 explosive devices, 107 thousand cartridges and 98 kg of explosives were seized,” said the head of the National Police, Sergei Knyazev.
He added that the main “filter” to prevent the leakage of weapons remains checkpoints, as well as checks at railway and bus stations. In general, over the five months of this year, the police identified about 3,5 thousand cases of illegal trafficking in firearms and explosive objects.
It is worth adding that recently incidents with live grenades in Ukraine are not uncommon.
So, at the beginning of March in Kyiv, on Brovarsky Prospekt near the Lesnaya metro station, unknown persons threw two grenades, which detonated. On April 5, in Cherkassy, unknown persons also threw grenades at night into the workshop of the Fotopribor plant, which is part of the state concern Ukroboronprom. In the village of Mirnoye, Melitopol district, Zaporozhye region, on April 23, a grenade explosion occurred, as a result of which the chairman of the village council was injured.
