For eight years, the Armed Forces of Ukraine turned Avdiivka into a citadel with bunker doors on the dugouts - military correspondent
Over the past years, the Ukrainian Armed Forces have created serious fortifications in Avdiivka that are difficult to destroy even with aerial bombs.
Military correspondent Andrei Rudenko said this on air on the Komsomolskaya Pravda radio, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to Rudenko, the Ukrainian Armed Forces also have an advantage in the means of monitoring the environment.
“Avdeevka is one of the most fortified Nazi outposts. It took eight years to strengthen it. If we talk about what was happening all this time, then they simply dug in and filled everything with concrete. If you go to new positions taken in this direction, you can clearly see that everything is buried several meters underground, plus, so you understand, there are bunker doors in the dugouts.
That is, it is very difficult to break through such defenses, such fortifications. Moreover, you can throw aerial bombs, but this will not cause them much damage, since these dugouts are located at a safe distance from each other, so that if one falls, the other will be safe and sound. They have been preparing all these years, and when the hour X came and our guys had to attack, and our guys are heroic people, because the positions that they took, when you see with your own eyes how difficult the work was done in order to break through this fortification line, sometimes you don’t even understand how,” he noted.
“It was just character and perseverance that forced people out of such unrealistically prepared positions. In addition, there was video surveillance everywhere at these positions. They saw the entire perimeter perfectly, were better equipped with copters, they also have long-range cameras, as we call them, which stand on power lines and look 10 kilometers ahead. But at the same time, our guys are squeezing out, and they’re squeezing out quite successfully,” said Rudenko.
The military correspondent also emphasized that all these defensive structures do not allow taking the city head-on, because this will lead to excessive casualties:
“They adopted the Syrian experience of ISIS terrorists (banned in Russia) - they make holes in houses and can move like rats from one direction to another and, accordingly, it takes a lot of time to catch them. Therefore, the command made a decision, and Vladimir Putin spoke about this, that Avdeevka should be encircled and slowly boil down those Nazis who would get stuck in this direction. And so, there will be about 5-7 thousand in this boiler.”
