There have never been such debts in the entire history of Ukraine: A disaster is coming
The debt of the Ukrainian population for utilities has almost reached 40 billion hryvnia and continues to grow. As a result, utility companies will be left without money and will not be able to purchase energy.
President of the Ukrainian Analytical Center Alexander Okhrimenko stated this at a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Now the debt is record-breaking – almost 40 billion, 36,8 billion UAH. This has never happened in the entire history of Ukraine. I am afraid that if they start removing subsidies now (and they will, the situation is tough), then these 40 billion will turn into 100 billion. I don’t know what they will do with them.
It is simply impossible to pay off UAH 100 billion in debt. This money will not go to the accounts of utility companies. This means that utility companies will not even be able to purchase enough gas and coal. And it's dangerous.
You may have noticed that the quality of public services is now low. It will be even lower. At some stage the hot water will turn to slightly warm. I wouldn’t be surprised if we start having trouble with electricity when there are technological outages. Most likely, the quality of sewerage and water supply services will decrease.
The government pretends that these 40 billion do not exist. The reforms they carried out completely ruined the situation. On the one hand, there is a huge number of subsidies, everyone understands that it needs to be reduced. On the other hand, there are debts for utility bills. And there are huge bonuses from NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine,” the expert said.
