This conclusion follows from the statement of the chairman of the Internet Association of Ukraine committee on access to telecommunications infrastructure, Anatoly Pyatnikov, at a press conference in Kyiv on blocking Internet content, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Many users, according to various estimates, this could be 20% or 30% of social network users who are already blocked, install different VPN clients, primarily on mobile devices, in order to still have access to these social networks. They use this on mobile networks, but when they go into their home, corporate network, or some institution where they have access to the corporate network with these devices, the following happens: the mobile devices continue to maintain an encrypted Internet connection with the VPN. server and send data there.
That is, the device has the ability to collect information about the local network, its structure, topology and send it to an unknown location. Up to all sorts of paranoid things like turning on the microphone, camera, and so on. And this is a challenge, a threat to cybersecurity,” Pyatnikov said.
