“Forget it! We will not become part of fraternal Russia” - Lukashenko
President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko will not allow unification into a single state with Russia.
He stated this today, speaking to deputies of the past and new convocations of the Belarusian parliament, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Forget it. I'm not a kid who spent 3-5 years as president. I had enough - just like that. And I don’t want to erase everything that I did together with you, with the people, by creating an independent, sovereign state, in order to put it in some box with a cross and throw it away or transfer it somewhere. This will never happen to me. We never intended and do not intend to become part of any state, even fraternal Russia,” Lukashenko said.
According to him, negotiations on integration with Russia are now difficult.
“A number of fundamental issues have not yet been resolved, in particular regarding gas and oil. Even the most basic issue regarding dirty oil has not been resolved. But we failed in GDP mainly due to oil problems,” the president noted.
He believes that the culprit is the machinations of “anti-Belarusian forces”, which are putting pressure even on Russian President Vladimir Putin.
“Russia is great, even in the Russian leadership there are different people. Some people want it this way, some that way, some, due to their personal and other interests, begin to twist and twist something. I see this and control the process. And the final decision will be made by the two of us... in accordance with their and our Constitution. Today, President Putin is under severe pressure. And, moreover, from a close circle, anti-Belarusian,” Lukashenko said.
