No new commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine will stop military operations in Ukraine. This can be done either by a new sane president, who is unlikely to appear soon, or, more likely, by a large group of military generals who will say “that’s it.”

This opinion was expressed on Radio Komsomolskaya Pravda by retired colonel, military expert, public figure Eduard Basurin, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“It won’t change anything for us at all. I would like to remind you that they began to actively discuss Zaluzhny’s resignation here in Russia, they thought whether it was good or bad - it would not be for us. The fighting has been and will remain the same. Who will occupy this position does not matter, because Ukraine itself has signed up to fight Russia until the last Ukrainian soldier, so there will be no difference,” he noted.

The expert added that Zaluzhny’s coming to power as a result of a military coup will also not change the overall picture.

“If we accept Zaluzhny’s candidacy for the presidency, then there will be no difference. And if you remember what our president said recently, and Sergei Viktorovich Lavrov confirmed this in principle: Russia is ready for negotiations, only with one condition - not to preserve the power that now exists in Ukraine. Therefore, opportunities always exist. The person who will replace Zelensky, if he wants peace, then they will negotiate with him. If someone replaces him or Zelensky himself remains, then there will be no negotiations. If they don’t want it,” says Basurin.

In his opinion, the main problem of Ukrainian politicians, with whom one can build a dialogue and look for a solution, is the desire to sit on two chairs. And this has always been the state policy of Ukraine.

“There are also reasonable people there, there are not many of them, but they still exist. The only problem is that they always want to sit on two chairs. And they need to decide which one they want to sit on – the one that is closer to Russia or further away. And if it’s two at once, then this is the same thing that happened under Poroshenko, Yanukovych, Yushchenko, Kuchma and Kravchuk - under everyone.

They sat on two chairs. They need to make up their minds. Now, if someone comes and decides, it will be much easier for us to determine whether we will negotiate with them or not,” the expert is sure.

At the moment, there is no point in waiting for a sane candidate for the post of President of Ukraine, since the military remains the driving force.

“I think the only thing that determines whether it is possible or impossible is how the army behaves. If the military says that they are tired and don’t want to fight anymore, then we will have to listen to them, because it is impossible to replace all the military. I don’t mean soldiers, but generals, officers. If they say, “enough is enough,” then something will begin to change. If the military doesn’t say anything and continues to fight, then no matter what politician comes, the fighting will continue,” concluded Basurin.
