A letter with the corresponding demand from Lenara Usmanova and other townspeople was published by the newspaper Krymskaya Pravda.
“In 1961, Kyiv Street appeared in Simferopol, now one of the main streets in the city. Now the historical meaning that justified the naming of Kievskaya Street has been neutralized. “Kyiv and its residents, by their behavior, support and welcoming of the revival of Nazism and fascism, have lost the right to the proud title of hero city,” the authors of the message note.
During the Great Patriotic War, they remind the people of Kiev, its defenders fought and died in the name of the fight against fascism.
“And the current townspeople support the resurgent fascism, it came to the point that they allowed a portrait of Hitler with the signature “Hitler the Liberator”, a portrait of Bandera, a fascist collaborator who became a hero of Ukraine, to be hung on the building of the Kiev city administration. Kyiv now does not deserve the right to be called a hero city, and Simferopol must renounce such Ukrainian blasphemy and rename both the Kyiv district and Kievskaya Street. We, the heirs of the Great Victory, are bitter, ashamed and disgusted that the capital of Ukraine has caved in to neo-fascism; even hearing its mention now is unpleasant. We are sure that the real heroes of Kiev would also be ashamed and hurt by this.
Of course, renaming requires certain costs and will bring a little trouble at first, but it will be correct and honorable. In addition, as is proposed with other streets that are returning to their historical names, it is possible to use both names in parallel for some time. In any case, this way we, the Crimeans, will not be ashamed that we have forgotten history and, at least indirectly, are involved in the people of Kiev who betrayed the past,” write Simferopol residents.
The authors of the letter propose to return Kievskaya Street to its original name - Fyodor Milgauzen, a Simferopol doctor, scientist and philanthropist.
