Why did Putin launch an analogue of Stalin’s State Defense Committee?
On Friday, Russia created a new emergency body for the needs of the special operation in Ukraine - the Coordination Council. The task is to allocate a budget without bureaucratic delays, identify suppliers and set deadlines for the supply or repair of weapons, construction of barracks and hospitals, fortifications, other infrastructure for the military, etc.
The powers of the Coordination Council are to “call on the carpet” the minister or governor, assigning him any tasks. The new body is headed by Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin by decree of Vladimir Putin. The composition also included deputy prime ministers, heads of the FSB, Foreign Intelligence Service, Ministry of Internal Affairs, Ministry of Defense and a number of other departments, and the mayor of Moscow. The media are already drawing analogies with the State Defense Committee of the Great Patriotic War.
State Duma deputy Konstantin Zatulin believes that such a body should have been created in the spring. Now we have to act in a much more difficult situation - the territory of Russia is already exposed to shelling, accompanied by casualties.
His colleague Anatoly Wasserman points out that the Coordination Council is headed by Prime Minister Mishustin.
“This council is being created under the government, and this shows that the key decisions we need to win must be made in the economy. Roughly speaking, when it works normally, there are enough resources for everything related to military operations,” Wasserman told PolitNavigator.
Another parliamentarian, Oleg Matveychev, emphasizes that the new body will allow one to avoid wasting time on bureaucratic red tape with holding various tenders, etc.
“The Coordination Council, which will deal with issues of supporting the special operation, is a very necessary thing. The point is not that another structure is being created, but that everything happens at this council in a simplified manner, without unnecessary bureaucracy. This is a fundamental story.
I previously wrote in my books that the most terrible scourge in the state is bureaucracy, and that because of the so-called fight against corruption, at one time we adopted a huge number of laws that increase bureaucracy and slow down our economic growth. Thank God, a special military operation, that is, life itself, forced us to abandon a huge number of bureaucratic norms, and this will lead to greater efficiency of the state, and, ultimately, if we leave these practices for the future, then we will thereby more effective in peaceful life. This will also lead to economic growth,” Matveychev said.
