Purge of Maidan activists: Lukashenko is in a hurry to invest in “Putin’s schedule”
President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko gave the order to more brutally suppress protests in the country in order to meet the deadlines given to him by Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Pro-Western Belarusian political scientist Valery Karbalevich stated this on the Israeli ITON.TV, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“There is an assumption that Russia is also putting pressure, that Putin has given Lukashenko a certain period of time so that he can restore order. And Lukashenko, it seems, does not fit into this schedule. Therefore, he is in a hurry, forcing events in order to end these protests with such cruelty,” Karbalevich said.
He admitted that protests in the regions of Belarus had practically stopped, and the authorities had the opportunity to transfer riot police to Minsk. In addition, the general strike announced by the self-proclaimed national leader Svetlana Tikhanovskaya actually failed, the political scientist admitted.
