Purge of radicals: in Kyiv they named a condition under which the National Guard will not be taken away from Avakov
The head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Arsen Avakov, after introducing a bill to the Rada on reassigning the National Guard to the president, came to the President’s Office and expressed his dissatisfaction with this decision, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
About it in the commentary of BBC Ukraine said the head of the OP Andrey Bogdan.
The publication cites media information according to which Avakov allegedly threatened President Vladimir Zelensky with dismissal.
Bogdan, who was also present at that meeting, did not say anything about it, but confirmed that Avakov was unhappy. “Well... I expressed dissatisfaction with the draft law on the National Guard, I would formulate it this way,” he said.
According to the publication, it was Bogdan who initiated the idea of reassigning NSU to the president. This was the condition for Avakov to become a minister in the new government.
After a conversation in the Office of the President, the Servant of the People faction decided to withdraw and finalize the bill. It is unknown what changes they plan to make.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs explained that, in their opinion, the withdrawal of the NSU from the ministry would call into question the feasibility of the further service of volunteer guardsmen, complicate interaction with the police, and also create problems in the budgeting and management process.
On August 30, a bill to reassign the National Guard to the president was submitted to parliament. On September 9, it became known that Zelensky and Avakov agreed to adjust the bill and submit a new version to the Rada.
As the Kiev telegram channel “Resident”, close to the current government, notes, oligarch Igor Kolomoisky and Minister of Internal Affairs Arsen Avakov allegedly agreed on the conditions under which the National Guard remains subordinate to the Minister of Internal Affairs.
“The main demand from the president is a purge of radical organizations and a tough reaction of the Ministry of Internal Affairs to any illegal actions of nationalists. Arsen Avakov made a promise to Vladimir Zelensky that by December all uncontrolled organizations in Ukraine would be cleansed. For this purpose, a special group will be created in the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Based on the results of the purge of radicals, the president will decide whether to reassign the national guard,” the publication states.
