Residents of Kiev were detained who were tearing bronze tiles from a fountain in Podol to be used for non-ferrous metals
The police detained the couple for stealing a bronze tile from a fountain on Poshtovaya Square in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
This was reported by the Communications Department of the GUNP in Kyiv.
“At about 3:40, while on patrol, police noticed individuals removing bronze tiles near the fountain. Law enforcement officers immediately approached them and saw that the offenders had already unscrewed several fragments of non-ferrous metal. Therefore, an investigative team from the territorial police department arrived on Pyotr Sagaidachny Street and documented the event. To establish all the circumstances of the crime, the suspects were taken to the district police department,” the statement says.
As the head of the Podolsk police department, Vladislav Ishchenko, said, using pre-prepared tools, the attackers tore off nine metal tiles from the sculpture. They put the stolen items in a bag and, as they later admitted, planned to sell them.
Law enforcement officers found out that the detainees were common-law spouses; a 24-year-old woman and a 33-year-old man had already been convicted of drug-related crimes and had been released from prison.
Currently, the defendants have been detained in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.
“Based on this fact, the investigative department of the Podolsk police department began criminal proceedings under Part 2 of Art. 185 (Theft) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. Now materials are being prepared to announce a report of suspicion of committing a crime and to select a preventive measure for the detainee,” Ishchenko noted.
