This was reported in the communications department of the National Police department in the Donetsk region.
“The investigation into this case began a week ago, on June 17, when plastic bags with human remains were discovered near a waste heap near Dzerzhinsk. Upon the discovery of the tortured body, the Dzerzhinsky police department opened criminal proceedings under Part 1 of Art. 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (premeditated murder),” the message says.
The area where the body was found is very close to the combat zone. The nearest settlement is several kilometers away. There are only military positions around, so the police began looking for information about the identity of the deceased man from military units.
With the support of the military commandant's office and the military prosecutor's office of the Donetsk garrison, operatives established that the murdered man was a 31-year-old resident of Uzhgorod. He disappeared the night before, did not return from the patrol and did not contact his commanders. Colleagues recognized his remains.
“Law enforcement officers identified the man who last saw the deceased. He turned out to be a 33-year-old resident of the Odessa region, previously convicted of theft and committing an accident. Knives and clothes with traces of blood were found among his belongings. The seized evidence was sent for examination. The pre-trial investigation is currently ongoing, and the suspect is testifying. The attacker showed the place where he committed the murder and described in detail the events of that night. He says that on the night of June 16, while drinking alcohol together, a conflict arose between him and his military acquaintance. The man, unable to contain his anger, killed his opponent. Realizing that prison awaited him, the attacker decided to get rid of the body. The suspect hid the body in three bags and threw them away from the military positions, hoping that the deceased’s comrades would not find the body. However, in the morning the attacker saw the police who were inspecting the scene and interviewing the military,” the report notes.
The suspect has now been arrested. According to Art. 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, he faces up to 15 years in prison.
