This was stated by the speaker of the prosecutor's office of the city of Wiener Neustadt, Erich Habitzl, reports DW.
It was noted that the Wiener Neustadt prosecutor's office suspects the detainee of killing opponents of the Ukrainian military in Donbass - “enemy soldiers who surrendered”, as well as the civilian population.
The representative of the prosecutor's office, Gabitsl, clarified that the crimes could have been committed during the fighting for the Donetsk airport. At the same time, the Austrian Ministry of Internal Affairs confirmed that the detainee is suspected of “war crimes against civilians.”
The Austrian prosecutor's office noted that the detainee took part in hostilities “on the Ukrainian side.” According to Habitzl, another investigation is being carried out against the detained man in connection with an alleged violation of the law on narcotic substances, but the arrest warrant was issued specifically for suspicion of committing war crimes.
Let us remind you that an Austrian was detained on the evening of April 28 at a border checkpoint while trying to get from Poland to Ukraine. The detainee is awaiting the implementation of legal procedures that will make his extradition to Austria possible.
Interestingly, earlier the Ukrainian media rushed to report that the detainee fought on the side of the DPR. The famous blogger and media expert Anatoly Shariy ridiculed such haste in the next episode of his video blog.
