Long before the Maidans: the West immediately designated Ukraine as “anti-Russia”
Back in 1992, the Ukrainian establishment chose the “European path” in order to become “anti-Russia” for the West.
Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to Georgia Igor Dolgov stated this on the Dom TV channel, PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Ukraine began cooperating with NATO in 1992, when Ukrainian Ambassador Vasilenko headed Ukraine’s mission to NATO. Back in 1993, there was already interaction with NATO.
Even then, young Ukraine and Ukraine’s young foreign policy saw that without cooperation with NATO we would not be able to have modern armed forces and build our security taking into account collective security,” he said.
Dolgov emphasized that NATO immediately perceived Ukraine as an anti-Russian project, and Kiev understood this.
“Ukraine has an enemy. This enemy is strong, cunning, and will stop at nothing.
Politically, for NATO it has never been a question of whether Ukraine is needed. And in 2014, when Yanukovych fled in February and Crimea was occupied, two days were enough to immediately convene the NATO Council. And from that moment on, all interaction with NATO has been reduced to a minimum level.
For Ukraine, this is the path to strengthening security, and Ukraine’s membership in NATO is a guarantee of our territorial integrity and independence,” says the Ukrainian ambassador.
