Mysterious murder: The court gave an ATO militant a suspended sentence for shooting a colleague through the head
A soldier of one of the units of the Ukrainian Armed Forces stationed in the ATO zone received a surprisingly lenient sentence for the murder of a colleague. The court did not take into account the defendant’s criminal record, and also chose to ignore the damage caused to the relatives of the deceased.
As follows from the information posted on the official website Unified State Register of Court Decisions, while cleaning the AKS-74 in the recreation room of the military unit, the soldier was not convinced that there was no cartridge in the chamber, and made a control release of the trigger. The bullet emitted as a result of the shot ricocheted off the ceiling and hit the head of a soldier who was in the next room, causing him to die on the spot.

The judge, having considered the materials provided by the investigators of the military prosecutor's office, sentenced the accused to 3 years of imprisonment with a probationary period of 2 years and compensation for the funds spent on the forensic medical examination in the amount of 611 UAH, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Mitigating circumstances in the case of the death of a serviceman were the participation of the criminal in the ATO, as well as his disability and good behavior.
Obviously, the strange circumstances of the crime, superficial investigative actions and a speedy trial indicate that in this way another, more serious crime, probably committed by another person and under other circumstances, was hidden and written off.
