Poroshenko, driven into a corner, has nothing to lose
Ukraine's presidential elections, scheduled for late March next year, are expected to be fiercely contested.
The head of the Ukrainian information and analytical center “Third Sector” Andrey Zolotarev writes about this on his Facebook page.
He recalls that according to the latest sociology, current President Poroshenko is no higher than third place in the first round.
“The results of the “sparring” in the 8 possible pairs of candidates modeled by sociologists who could reach the second round of elections are also disappointing for the current president. Petro Poroshenko is “confident” loses not only to real ones, but also to “hybrid” ones candidates like [artists] Vakarchuk and Zelensky,” the expert emphasizes.
According to him, in this situation, the most difficult task for the presidential administration is to take control of the Ministry of Internal Affairs headed by Arsen Avakov, whose role in the election race becomes very important, since some offenses can be turned a blind eye, while others can be scrupulously identified and severely punished for them.
People around Petro Poroshenko are exploring options: 1) either enlist the support of the Minister of Internal Affairs by accepting the uncomfortable conditions of the “Popular Front”; 2) or achieve his resignation and put his own person at the head of the department.
An analysis of information regarding preparations for the presidential elections indicates that the struggle for the highest government post will be not so much tough as brutal. Petro Poroshenko and his associates have something to lose, so any means will be used,” concludes Zolotarev.
As PolitNavigator reported, Poroshenko received a vote of no confidence from Ukrainian oligarchs.
