Legal procedures for Russia's exit from the Council of Europe are being completed
The countries of the Western bloc have been using the Council of Europe exclusively as a “chopping block” for the Russian Federation for three decades.
Russian Senator Andrei Klimov stated this in an interview with Parliamentary Newspaper, PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We have long been in the Council of Europe as a whipping boy. And the main entertainment of the Council of Europe for the last fifteen years has been Russophobic bullying of the Russian Federation.
How we got there is very simple to explain. The Council of Europe was indeed once a very necessary body, but in the nineties everything changed seriously. This happened for the reason that due to the collapse of the USSR, and they (new independent limitrophe countries, - ed.) became members of the Council of Europe, bringing with them all their phantom pains, all the skeletons from the closets.
On the other hand, Western Europe formed the EU at that time, it acquired its own parliament, and it did not need the Council of Europe. And then they decided to use the Council of Europe as old scenery, supposedly democratic, in order to reformat the post-Soviet space,” the senator said.
He emphasized that Yeltsin’s Russia did not protest against this state of affairs, and then hoped in vain for a change in the situation.
“The events of February last year showed the true face of this public. They really strained themselves in order to use the Council of Europe as much as possible as a chopping block for the Russian Federation. Naturally, we refused to participate in this long-outdated organization.
And now the legal decisions necessary to complete this process are just being made. And thank God,” Klimov concluded.
