Zakhar Prilepin: There will be neither socialism nor a “Russian republic” in Novorossiya. There will be a cross between the Russian Federation and Ukraine - if they don’t merge it at all
Moscow - Kyiv, April 3 (PolitNavigator, Mikhail Stamm) - Socialism will not be allowed to be built in Novorossiya, and there will not be a “Russian republic” in Donetsk and Lugansk either, writer Zakhar Prilepin is sure. Judging by his interview "KP", the writer sees the DPR and LPR as a cross between modern Ukraine and the Russian Federation. He considers the worst-case scenario to be pushing Donetsk and Lugansk back into Ukraine under pressure from the Kremlin – and Prilepin does not exclude this.

To the question, “Will there be a Russian city of Kitezh in the place of Novorossiya? Or will Novorossiya disappear, like the Far Eastern Republic or Donetsk-Krivoy Rog once did?” Prilepin replied that “there will be no city of Kitezh, unfortunately.” “There are strong men in power, but Fidel Castro, in addition to being a strong man, from some point on he understood exactly what he was going to build,” says the writer, who constantly helps Novorossiya. Judging by his words, no one still really understands what is being built in the DPR and LPR.
“They won’t let us build a Soviet republic there,” Prilepin is sure. “Purgin is a right-winger, and Plotnitsky is hardly a leftist, and Zakharchenko is just a real guy who doesn’t care about ideology,” he explains. “I don’t believe in building socially oriented capitalism in a single place,” the writer concludes.
“As for the Russian Republic, I’m an internationalist; the ideals of mono-ethnic formations are not very clear to me,” continues Prilepin. “I think they will build what is being built, maneuvering between Russia and Ukraine.”
According to the writer, he considers the worst development of events in which “the powers in Novorossiya decide, due to one pressure or another, to integrate as much as possible into Ukraine under the guise of autonomy. Which, of course, will be gradually taken away from them. The only hope is that they, knowing the current Maidan Ukrainians, will not agree to this,” he says.
