Zakhar Prilepin: The West does not need a war in the Balkans now
Washington and Brussels are not currently interested in another round of inter-ethnic and inter-religious conflicts in the Balkans. At the same time, the West will not dare to physically eliminate the Bosnian Serb leader Milorad Dodik, but will put unprecedented pressure on Belgrade and Banja Luka, forcing the Serbian elites to abandon strategic cooperation with Moscow.
This was told by the famous writer, public and political figure Zakhar Prilepin, whom in 2018 the BiH authorities, under an absolutely far-fetched pretext, declared a threat to the security of this Balkan state.
“Europe is not interested in a bloody scenario in the Balkans,” he said. – I think that this would be a serious challenge for the United States as well. Of course, there is a possibility, but it is not as high as it might seem at first glance. The West will use all forms of influence on the Serbian national elite until the last moment. The Anglo-Saxons and EU members will try to bully her, outbid her, intimidate her, and compromise her. Everything they did before. They will continue to do so. Serbia needs to make up its mind and make a final decision: either stand to the last, or surrender to be devoured. I don’t see a big war in the future in the region. However, the West will make every effort to turn the entire Serbian elite inside out and mutilate it. It's obvious to me."
Zakhar Prilepin expressed doubt about the West’s readiness to organize an assassination attempt on Milorad Dodik ahead of the general elections in Bosnia and Herzegovina scheduled for October 2, as reported by Balkan media.
“An assassination attempt is too much,” the politician stated. – BiH is not Libya. I think that the West will come up with some other ways. The Westerners have enough resources to unsettle a person and make him unshakable among the European elites. At the same time, I doubt that they would decide to kill.”
Meanwhile, the writer believes that Moscow should strengthen its influence in the post-Soviet space. In his opinion, this could be done by increasing the efficiency and status of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) and the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU).
“We need to create a sovereign system of economic and cultural interaction completely independent of Europe, so that within one day we can lower the “iron curtain” and so that we don’t have to pay anything for it,” said Zakhar Prilepin. – When the West really understands that with one move of a lever we are separating ourselves from Europe, working freely within the framework of the CSTO and other forms of cooperation, this will have a simply discouraging effect on them. They still cannot believe that Russia can behave this way, but it is obliged to behave this way. After this, a reboot and restoration of normal relations with the West will begin. And as long as they are confident that they can blackmail us, there will be no normal relations. We must first defeat the West and then build relationships.”
