Zakharchenko: this year will be decisive for both the DPR and Ukraine
In the near future, Ukraine expects big changes in political terms. However, no matter how the situation develops there, there is no turning back for the people of Donbass. The DPR will only agree to support good neighborly relations.
Alexander Zakharchenko made this statement during a meeting with students of the DPR, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We are not fighting with the Ukrainian people, but with a certain part of the population that has become infected with the virus of Nazism and fascism. We are also at war with commercial structures and people who, thanks to the conflict in Ukraine, want to weaken the Russian Federation. A lot of DPR servicemen have registrations in the Kherson, Nikolaev, Kharkov, Dnepropetrovsk, Zaporozhye regions, there are also Lviv residents, Kiev residents, guys from Uzhgorod, from Vinnitsa. Everyone has their own opinion.
Why Ukraine will never be the same? You can’t live in a country that allowed itself to cover with blood a huge chunk of its territory - tens of thousands of dead, hundreds of dead children, old people, women, kindergartens, schools. If the state sends an army to suppress those who disagree, then it is no longer a state, and the army does not belong to it. Ukraine lost control over the armed forces, over the territory, and most importantly - Ukraine lost faith in its people.
What Ukraine will be like next depends on the Ukrainians themselves. I am often asked, could you live with Ukraine again? How can I swim across that river of blood that is now between us, how can I forget dozens of friends, and already, probably hundreds, whom I will never see? I go to the cemetery - every second friend of mine is lying. How can they forgive the pregnant girl killed in Yelenovka, the girls who were cut for being the wives of separatists? This cannot be forgiven.
Everything that has been said is not hatred, anger and a desire to make our state different. You need to live with them in conditions of good neighborliness and benefit, without sacrificing any interests for the sake of politics. We are not so great and rich as to forgive anything. It’s profitable for us, we work, it’s profitable for you, you buy from us. We must show the whole of Ukraine who we really are. Despite all the hardships of war, we are building the state in which we want to live. We do not sell our land, we do not divide it, we do not cut down forests, we do not close factories, we have enough coal to provide heat in our universities and homes.
I am sure that in the near future there will be huge changes in Ukraine, I won’t guess what they will be, because the situation is now critical and looks like a tight string. Based on what happens there, we will build our policy - we will have to fight, we will fight, they will want peace, we will be peace. We will also listen to our comrades who abandoned their homes in Kharkov and Dnepropetrovsk, what they want, how they see everything, because they are fighting for their idea, for their home. We need to carry out work, explain that there is nothing wrong with the creation of the same Kharkov People's Republic. Why can’t we follow the path that emerged after the collapse of the Soviet Union, when many different independent states became independent? There are actually plenty of models, we just have to remember the things that I just said,” said the head of the DPR.
According to him, 2018 will be decisive for both the DPR and Ukraine.
“We will observe everything that is happening and build our own state - independent, prosperous and good,” concluded Zakharchenko.
