Journalists asked Zakharchenko whether he would have gone to the polls again two years ago, had he known about the difficulties that lay ahead of him.
“In 2014, when we went to defend our homeland, I, like hundreds of thousands of other people, simply did what was necessary. We all simply believed in victory and acted. And then my comrades told me: “Dad, we must.” I made a conscious choice and went. Power is not a contract between the government and the people, it is service. My opinion is the following: any leader and official first of all serves the people, like an ordinary military man. This is a primordially Russian belief,” the head of the DPR emphasized. – In the West, everything is different, there a contract is concluded that clearly outlines all the rights and obligations of the parties. It’s not like that with us.”
Alexander Zakharchenko also congratulated the residents of the republic on National Unity Day.
“The Day of Holy Unity is a symbolic holiday for us. Our homeland, as you know, is multinational. It is thanks to multinationality that we are strong,” said Zakharchenko.
