Zakharchenko: Ukraine is unlikely to extend the law on special status
On October 18, the law “On the special status of local self-government in certain areas of the Lugansk and Donetsk regions” expires, which was adopted by the Verkhovna Rada, but never came into force. Ukraine does not intend to extend the law.

This opinion was expressed by Alexander Zakharchenko at his press conference, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The upcoming meeting in Minsk will deal with exactly this. We must wait for the results of the meeting, but my personal opinion is that Ukraine will not extend it. Firstly, we have very little time to make a decision, and secondly, this is really unprofitable for Ukraine for one simple reason: special status means the end of the Poroshenko regime.
The situation in Ukraine now is actually very complicated – the emergence of Saakashvili and the opposition. Therefore, I think that all this will now be slowed down as much as possible. For the European and world community, they will, of course, find a bunch of excuses, like “we can’t”, “we’re not capable”, “we don’t control the situation in the Verkhovna Rada” and so on.
Here, on our territory, this will not affect us at all - we already have a difficult situation, and we are waiting for improvement, but we will live as we lived before,” Zakharchenko said.
